Association Forum Announces 2014 Honors Awards Recipients
CHICAGO (March 25, 2014)—Association Forum is pleased to announce the 2014 Honors Awards recipients. The Honors Awards program recognizes five Association Forum members who have made exceptional achievements and contributions to the association management profession.
Patricia Blake, FASAE, CAE, Named Shapiro Award Winner
The highest honor Association Forum bestows on an association professional for outstanding service and accomplishments in association/nonprofit management is the Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Achievement. This year’s recipient is Patricia Blake, FASAE, CAE, CEO of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. In 2001, Blake was recruited to serve as the executive director for ASGE, which had been managed by an association management firm for 25 years. ASGE’s Board determined that the organization should become a stand-alone entity and move its headquarters from Boston to Chicago. Recognizing this as an opportunity to develop a “start-up” organization, Blake began her tenure as the ASGE CEO in February 2002, its first and only paid staff member.
During her tenure as the ASGE’s CEO, Blake has led several significant accomplishments. Staff has grown to 54 full-time staff and 12 part-time medical and event staff. Under Blake’s leadership, the organization has worked to redefine the art and science of hands-on training for physicians. As a result of this effort, the ASGE Institute for Training and Technology—a $21 million, 42,000 square-foot facility located in Downers Grove, Ill., was completed and opened in June 2013. In addition to serving as ASGE’s international headquarters, the IT&T conference center and bioskills lab are also being used for educational courses, endoscopy and surgical training.
Blake is an active member of Association Forum, where she has chaired several committees, authored numerous articles for FORUM magazine and served as board chair. She also is a member of ASAE, serving on the ASAE Business Services Board and is vice chair of the ASAE Key Professional Association Committee.
In addition to the Shapiro Award, Association Forum also is pleased to announce the recipients of the other distinguished Honors Awards:
“I couldn’t be more impressed with this year’s Honors Awards recipients. The entire lineup truly embodies a spirit of advocacy for the advancement of the association management profession," says Association Forum President and CEO, Christie A. Tarantino, FASAE, CAE. "The characteristics of leadership and commitment that each of the Honors Awards recipients consistently demonstrate sets a very positive example that the entire association community can appreciate."
The Honors Awards recipients will be recognized at signature events taking place June 17–19 during Forum Forward™, a reimagined, “best-in-class” experience for forward-thinking association leaders and professionals and its industry partners, featuring a wide array of continuing education, networking experiences and recognition activities.
More than 1,000 industry professionals are expected to attend Forum Forward education and networking opportunities June 17 - 19, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Honors Gala 2014 will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., June 19, in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago.
