Have an idea that will challenge association professionals to think differently? Or a business solution to share? Help your colleagues overcome the sentiment, “But we’ve always done it that way,” by presenting at Association Forum’s recalibrated annual meeting—Forum Forward 2015—taking place June 16-17 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The Forum Forward Working Group is now seeking education content on marketing, expanding revenue, technology or new business models. All submissions must be received by Dec. 31. Review the criteria before submitting your proposal.

MINIMUM WAGE UPDATE
On Dec. 2, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance to increase the minimum wage in Chicago to $13/hour by 2019. The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce with the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, Illinois Restaurant Association, and Illinois Retail Merchants Association opposed the increase for many reasons including the potential of the ordinance constraining growth and job creation by business. The Illinois State House adjourned on Dec. 3 without taking action on the minimum wage. After the House adjourned, the Illinois Senate passed an amended bill (House Bill 4733) that would raise the wage to $11/hour over a 4-year period (July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2019). It includes language to preempt municipalities from setting a minimum wage higher than the state, but grandfathers in the Chicago minimum wage of $13/hour. It also contains tax credits for some employers.
