The highlight of the evening for the Forum Honors Gala is the presentation of awards to leaders and achievers in the association community. It is a time to honor our own with awards and scholarships.
The highest honor the Association Forum bestows, the Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Executive Officer Achievement, is presented to a CEO for outstanding service and accomplishments in association/nonprofit management. The award is named after Samuel B. Shapiro, CAE, a past chairman of the Forum and the American Society of Association Executives. Recipients of this award have made outstanding accomplishments in their professional and personal lives.
Award Criteria The nominee should:
- Be recognized as an exceptional association/nonprofit professional who has advanced the welfare of his or her employer’s industry or profession;
- Contribute significantly and consistently to the advancement and/or recognition of the profession through service to the Forum, ASAE, and related organizations;
- Openly share valuable experience with other
association/nonprofit professionals;
- Serve an active role in civic and community affairs.
Eligibility
Any member of the Forum may nominate himself or herself, or another member, for this award. The nominee must be employed in a full-time capacity as the chief executive officer of an association/nonprofit organization or association management company at the time of nomination; must have been the chief executive officer for one year prior to nomination; and must have been a regular voting member of the Forum for five consecutive years. Forum officers, directors and staff are not eligible for this award.

Association Professional Achievement Award
The Association Professional Achievement Award is presented to an association professional member for exemplary service and outstanding accomplishments in association/nonprofit management. This award reflects a high level of commitment to professional growth and personal pride in the association/nonprofit management industry.

Supplier Partner Service Award
The Supplier Partner Service Award is presented to a supplier partner in recognition of exemplary service and support to the association/nonprofit profession and to the Forum.

John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award
The John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award is presented for outstanding service to the Forum by an individual member. This award has been presented for exceptional, long-term, volunteer service to the Forum, primarily through committee service or similar contributions. “Unsung hero” or “above and beyond the call of duty” are two ways to describe past recipients. This award is named in memory of the late John C. Thiel, CAE, the Forum’s chairman-elect in 1990-91.
