Who Has the Launch Codes? Intentional Plans for Unintended Transitions
2:05–3 p.m.

You are at home and receive a phone call letting you know the leader, or a key staff person, of your association has passed away. After the initial shock, you realize all the key information that the person knew was not written down. Having a plan containing the “launch codes” for the association will help everyone move forward during an unintended and unexpected transition. Learn how to develop this plan or how to make a case for your leadership to do so. 

Learner outcomes:

  • Explore the idea that it is not morbid to have a plan, rather, it is comforting
  • Discuss the framework of an unintended transition plan so you know where to start
  • Consider the importance of applying this to your personal life in addition to the association
About the Speaker 

Jeff Adkisson, IOM, CAE, is the Executive Vice President and Treasurer of the Grain and Feed Association of Illinois.  He has held that position since January of 1999 and has been with the Association since 1987.  In addition to his work with the Grain and Feed Association of Illinois, he served as a trustee of the Chatham Area Public Library District for 14 years and as President for 12 of those years.  He also served as President of his neighborhood homeowners association.  Jeff has been a member of the American and Illinois Society of Association Executives for over 30 years.

If hybrid is the future, how can association professionals keep up amongst tightened budgets and ever-changing member needs? Join Event Strategist Kathy Ridley as she shares tips for producing hybrid events and explores the advantages hybrid can open up for associations as they aim to remain relevant for their members.

About the Speaker
Kathy Ridley is a Certified Association Executive and Digital Event Specialist with over 20 years of experience in association management.  She has an excellent reputation for resolving problems, improving member satisfaction, strategic planning, meeting planning, budgets and providing directional leadership toward the achievement of an organization’s annual objectives.  Kathy is effective at leading teams and individuals to success in sync with the association’s mission, purpose, and strategies.  She has demonstrated expertise in driving new income opportunities by engaging and recruiting sponsors, volunteers, and members.

Tips and Tools to Prepare for Anything the Future May Hold
4:15–5 p.m.

In this discussion-based session, Callan Stapleton and Kristen Ball will cover three main topic areas that are top of mind across the association industry. They'll discuss tips for event planning in this uncertain atmosphere of in-person, hybrid, and virtual experiences. Then, they'll offer insights on developing products & services to diversify association revenue portfolios. Finally, they'll cover the changing organizational structures and expectations of staff going forward. Under each topic area, they will share their personal experiences and look to the audience to also share their experiences in a lively discussion.

About the Speakers

Kristen Ball is a Certified Meeting Professional with 25 years of experience in meeting planning and non-profit management. She has served in various capacities at several statewide associations including Membership Director, Communications Director, Development Director, and as Executive Director for a national organization. Kristen currently works as an independent contractor for an association management company, managing one state and one national association. 

Kristen is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Communications and received her CMP certification in 2010. She resides in Williamsville, IL, with her two sons, Zach and Luke.

Callan Stapleton, CAE, is the President of IBES at the Illinois Bankers Association (IBA). He has held various positions at the IBA since 2015 and has been in his current position since December 2017. Prior to joining the IBA, he worked in the banking industry for more than 15 years, primarily in correspondent banking, and has had the focus for being an asset for banks throughout Illinois. He currently serves on the ISAE Chapter Board.
